Retired WPS Officer Harvey Vaags and his wife Joyce have recently started training for a colossal charitable adventure.
The ambitious couple have been training for the “ride of their lives” and will soon take part in the 2013 Sea to Sea Bike Tour. The tour is a nine (9) week adventure hosted by the Reformed Churches of America, Partners World Wide and World Review and includes over two hundred (200) riders from across North America.
The trek starts on June 24 in Los Angeles, California and ends in New York CIty in August.
By the time the journey is completed, Harvey & Joyce will have traveled over seven thousand (7,000) kilometers.
Each participant is expected to raise ten thousand ($10,000) dollars and organizers expect to raise over $1.5 million in funds that are designated to help the world’s poor and will include initiatives to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS in Africa and offer assistance to Central American farmers to improve crop yields.
“This is a chance to ride for a very good cause and with a great group of people,” Harvey said in an interview with The Clipper Weekly.
