It didn’t take long for the City of Winnipeg to record its first murder of 2017.
On January 3, 2017 at approximately 9:55 p.m., police responded to a report of gunshots heard in the vicinity of Thames Avenue and Watt Street.
Upon arrival, responding officers located an adult male lying in the roadway.
Winnipeg Fire Paramedics Service personnel transported the victim to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Police have not released the victim’s identity.
A post-mortem examination to determine cause of death is pending.
The investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit.

On January 5th, Police issued press release announcing arrest in this homicide.
The sixteen (16) year old young offender has been charged with 2nd degree murder in connection with this case.
Police indicate the killing was not drug or gang related.
In 2016, no young offenders were charged with murder in the City of Winnipeg.
In 2016, the first homicide of the year was recorded on January 12.
The year ended with a total of 24 homicides.
