Stabbings are emerging as the murder method of choice this year with eleven (11) of the seventeen (17) killings coming by way of edged weapon attacks or stabbings.*
That number translates to almost 65%.
The majority of stabbings are fuelled by the consumption of alcohol or drugs or a combination of both.
These violent crimes place a dark stain on the reputation of the City of Winnipeg and contribute to our high-ranking on the annual National crime severity index statistics recorded by Stats Canada.
In 2013, Winnipeg recorded a total of twenty-five (25) Homicides. Of these, thirteen (13) murder victims, or 52%, died as a result of edged weapon attacks or stabbings.
