On April 12, 2014, shortly after 5:00 pm, members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a shots fired call in the 400 block of Pacific Avenue.

Upon arrival Police located an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.  The male was immediately transported from the scene but subsequently died in hospital.

The deceased was identified as Geoffrey Oliver Reid (27) years of Winnipeg.

Results of the autopsy are pending.

Members of the Homicide Unit were notified and continue to investigate.

The investigation led Detectives to a residence in the 300 block of Alexander Avenue where the shooting is believed to have occurred.

No charges have been laid at this time and interviews are ongoing.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to contact investigators at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.

INSIDER COMMENTARY:

Reid’s murder is the sixth (6th) reported homicide in Winnipeg this year and the third (3rd) killing reported in the month of April.

Four (4) of the six (6) murders recorded this year have been solved.

On July 21, 2010, Reid was shot by Police in the 500 block of Alexander Ave after he brandished a sawed off shotgun in the aftermath of a heated argument.  Reid managed to escape but was captured several days later at a residence in the 600 block of Maryland Street.

At the time of his arrest, Police learned Reid was suffering from an untreated gun shot wound.

In May of 2012, Reid plead guilty to firearms offences and was sentenced to two years less a day in jail.

Had Provincial Court Judge Sandy Chapman granted the Crown’s request to sentence Reid to three (3) years in prison he would have likely been deported to Jamaica, his native Country.

  1. I am so sorry that this poor young man had passed just before Easter/2014. I think there are many more people feeling as I do now!! He should have been “blown away” back in 2010 by the guys in BLUE, put in a plywood box & returned to his grieving family THEN!!! He should also be shipped by boat and not by air to save our on environment! Furthermore that Police Officer in 2010 needs to re-qualify more often than once a year now!!
