After forty-seven (47) days of relative calm, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Homicide Unit finds themselves back in the trenches investigating a pair of deaths in a Charleswood neighborhood.
On May 21, 2018, at approximately 9:00 p.m., the WPS received a call to check on the well-being of a resident in the 600 block of Buckingham Road.
Upon arrival, officers located the bodies of two deceased adults in the residence.
Police have offered little in the way of information other than to say the deaths are being considered “suspicious.”
Police often refer to deaths such as these as “suspicious” in the early stages of an investigation when the need to protect information is critically important.
You can expect clarification in short order.
In the meantime, police are asking anyone with information that may assist the investigation to call the Homicide Unit at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
The last reported homicide in Winnipeg was on April 4, 2018, when Gilbert Chartrand (42) was stabbed to death in the 500 block of Agnes Street. Police subsequently charged Faron Henderson (28) and Jerome Kakagamic (24) with 2nd-degree murder in connection with the killing.
The victims killed on Buckingham Road represent the 6th & 7th reported homicide victims in Winnipeg this year.
In 2017, the 6th & 7th homicides of the year were recorded on March 12th.
On May 23, 2017, the City recorded its 10th homicide case.

May 19, 2015
A sixty-six (66) year old grandmother was brutally murdered by her fifteen (15) year old grandson in the 100 block of a residence on Cheltenham Cove. The youth was charged with 1st-degree murder but plead guilty to 2nd-degree murder in a plea bargain arrangement. He received the maximum sentence of 4 years in custody followed by 3 years of supervised probation.
May 17, 2013
Natasha Jeffrey (37) and Ronald Dabreo (39) were stabbed to death in a residence in the 4300 block of Roblin Blvd. Police subsequently charged Seymour Sharpe with 2nd-degree murder x 2 in connection with the killings. Sharpe was convicted as charged and was sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole for twenty-two (22) years.
July 22, 2009
A forty-nine (49) year old man was brutally murdered and dismembered by his seventeen (17) year old son in their home in the 300 block of Marlton Crescent. The boy subsequently plead guilty to 1st-degree murder in a plea bargain that kept him from being sentenced as an adult.
