INSIDER COMMENTARY:

Edged weapon assaults or stabbings continue to rage in Murder City.

Nine (9) of the thirteen (13) Homicides that have occurred this year were caused by edged weapon assaults or stabbings and it doesn’t appear the trend is going to abate any time soon.

On July 19, 2014, at 3:00 am, EMS personnel were dispatched to the 500 block of McDermot Ave regarding the report of yet another stabbing.

On arrival, a thirty-two (32) year old male was found to be suffering from an apparent stab wound to the upper body.  The man was transported to hospital in critical condition but later upgraded to stable.  Police indicate the stabbing appears to have been an unprovoked attack by a stranger who was described as Aboriginal, 20-30 years of age, tall with an average build wearing cut off jean shorts.

The Division #11 Crime Unit is investigating.

The City of Winnipeg has a long history of achieving murder and violent crime Capital of Canada status.

As the stabbings continue to rage, WPS Homicide Unit Investigators often speculate what the murder numbers might look like if it weren’t for the rapid response of EMS Personnel and the remarkable life saving efforts of dedicated Emergency Room Doctors and other Medical Professionals.

Stabbings in the month of July started off at a torrid pace with a Canada Day killing and multiple stabbings occurring since that date.  A number of the violent attacks were chronicled in The Police Insider Story – “Police Collar Canada Day Killer – Stabbings Rage in Murder City.”

Edged weapon attacks are often fuelled by the use and abuse of alcohol and drugs or combination of both.

The WPS Homicide Unit has solved all but three (3) reported homicides this year.

  2. James in this city our leaders care about Bears, Jouney To Churchill, Condos At The Forks. Oh I must not forget the opening of the CMHR on Sept 20/2014. Did I miss the, we might not allow singing on transit busses, how foolish of me. Last week I also heard a councillor say if we all lived in Osborne village and rode the bus, everything is going to be okay. Oh what was the topic here again I forget, stabbings. I have no comment on that.
