On Sunday, March 31, 2013 at approximately 2:00 am, WPS members and EMS personnel responded to the 100 block of Martha Street regarding the report of an assault.
Upon arrival, an injured male was located and subsequently transported from the scene in critical condition as a result of being stabbed in the upper body.
The investigation revealed two males attended to a residence and began consuming alcohol. It was during this time the males became involved in a verbal dispute which resulted in FLETT being stabbed. The victim was located and emergency personnel were notified. Timothy SANDERSON (32) of Winnipeg was arrested at that time and initially charged with Aggravated Assault.
The victim, Harvey FLETT (44) remained in critical condition for a period of time and later succumbed to his injuries.
On April 8, 2013, Timothy SANDERSON (32) was charged with Manslaughter due to his alleged involvement.
He remains in custody.
Murder cases involving alcohol often present significant challenges for prosecutors who struggle to secure coherent evidence that might be presented in a Court of Law.
As a result, these types of cases are often plea bargained down to secure some type of accountability for the offender.
