Missing Persons Case Ends in Tragedy – Police Charge Killer

Police tape.On January 7, 2015, the Winnipeg Police Service requested the public’s assistance in locating a missing person identified as Christophur Baur (36) who was last seen in the area of Ellice Ave and Wall Street during the evening of Saturday, January 3, 2015.

Concerns for Baur’s well-being significantly increased after Police located his vehicle in the 800 block of Manitoba Ave.

On January 29, 2015, Police issued a second appeal to the public seeking assistance in solving Baur’s disappearance.

Police advised Missing Persons Unit investigators believed Baur may have been the victim of foul play and turned the investigation over to the Homicide Unit.

On February 15, 2015, police located and arrested a suspect in the 800 block of Magnus Ave.  Baur’s remains were subsequently found in a residence at this location.

The police investigation revealed Baur attended the suspect’s residence on January 3, 2015 where an altercation occurred.  During the altercation, the suspect armed himself with a weapon and struck Baur knocking him unconscious.

Baur succumbed to his injuries and the suspect concealed his body at his residence.

Police have charged James John Morris (38) years of Winnipeg with 2nd Degree Murder due to his alleged involvement.

Morris was detained in custody.

Police indicate Baur and Morris were previously known to each other.

Police spokesman Constable Eric Hofley indicated the case was solved by knocking on doors and what he called, “good old-fashioned police work.”

Baur has been reported as the 2nd murder victim in Winnipeg in 2015.
