On June 4, 2015, at approximately 3:00 am, Police and members of the Winnipeg Fire & Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to the 200 block of Dufferin Ave regarding reports of an injured man.
Upon arrival, police located a man suffering from an injury consistent with being stabbed. The man was transported from the scene in critical condition and was subsequently pronounced deceased in hospital.
Police say the man was stabbed in the upper body after becoming involved in an altercation with a group of people.
The victim has been identified as Elmer Kakewash (29) of Winnipeg.
No arrests have been made at this time.
Members of the Homicide Unit continue to investigate.

Kakewash is the 13th reported homicide victim in Winnipeg this year.
In 2014, the WPS investigated at total of twenty-five (25) homicides, fifteen (15) of which were caused by stabbings.
Only two (2) cases from 2014 remain unsolved.
To date, the WPS has investigated a total of thirteen (13) homicides, five (5) of which were caused by stabbings.
Three (3) of this years killings remain unsolved.
