Police have confirmed that two deceased Winnipeg residents found at 210 Chestnut Street were victims of Homicide.
WPS Public Information Officer Constable Jason Michalyshen identified the victims as Unice Ophelia Crow (19) and her common-law husband Trevor James Sinclair (31).
Members of the WPS Homicide Unit and Forensic Services continue to investigate.
The cause of death will be determined pending autopsy, which is believed to be ongoing at this time.
Investigators have confirmed family members last had contact with the victims on Thursday, August 29, 2013. The bodies were discovered yesterday, September 4, 2013 around 7:50 am, when Police responded to the crime scene after the bodies were discovered by an unidentified witness.
Michalyshen released the information during an 11:00 am press conference held at the Public Safety Building this morning. According to Michalyshen, Police have not identified any suspect (s) at this time and have not ruled out the possibility the deaths were caused as a result of a Murder / Suicide.
Police are requesting that anyone who may have information to assist the investigation, or who may have had contact with the victims prior to their deaths, to call investigators at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
The chances of this case being a Murder / Suicide is remote.
The question regarding Murder / Suicide was posed by crime reporters attempting to dig further into the story. It was clear the PIO was not comfortable ruling out the possibility at this point in the investigation based on the information he had at the time of the press conference.
Murder / Suicide cases are rare and often involve the use of a firearm.
In cases of Murder / Suicide the Police are normally quick to tell the Public so that fears regarding the danger an outstanding murder suspect might present to the community might be allayed. In this case, no such disclosure was made.
It is far more likely this is a case of a tragic double Homicide with a suspect that has yet to be identified by the Police.
The deaths of Crow & Sinclair represent the 17th and 18th murders of the year.
(Includes the deaths of the Gibson children whose deaths have yet to be confirmed as Homicides by the WPS.)
