POLICE IDENTIFY OSBORNE STREET HOMICIDE VICTIM

On January 24, 2014, at approximately 11:30 pm, members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to the area of the Osborne Street Bridge regarding the report of an assault.

On arrival Officers found two (2) injured adult males who were both transported to Hospital in critical condition.  One of the victims has since succumbed to his injuries.

Police have identified the deceased male as Joshua Bentley (18) years of Winnipeg.

Police Insider sources indicate Bentley was stabbed to death.

According to a story published in the Winnipeg Free Press, Bentley was the lead singer in a hardcore band called Empty Hands.  The story indicates Bentley recently graduated from St Norbert Collegiate where he was known for his green hair and tattoo collection.

The investigation is in the early stages and no further information was released.

Member of the Homicide Unit continue to investigate.

This is the second murder recorded in Winnipeg in 2014.

On January 19, 2014, members of the WPS responded to a residence in the 200 block of Andrews Street and subsequently found the body of Justin Desmarais (24).  Media reports indicated Desmarais had been stabbed multiple times.

The case remains unsolved.
