Police Investigate Belmont Avenue Homicide – City Equals 2015 Mark

On December 20, 2016 at 4:35 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a residence located in the 200 block of Belmont Avenue regarding a “check the well-being” call.

Information received indicated an individual may have sustained life-threatening injuries.

(Police indicate the circumstances were “unconfirmed.”)

Upon arrival, police located a deceased adult male with multiple injuries indicative of foul play.

Police advise the investigation is in its early stages and interviews are ongoing involving members of the WPS Homicide Unit.

The victim killed in this incident represents the 23rd reported homicide victim in Winnipeg this year.

A total of five (5) of the killings remain unsolved – solvency rate = 78%.

In 2015, Winnipeg investigated a total of 23 homicides.

Of those 23 homicides, a total of two (2) remain unsolved – solvency rate = 91%.

In 2015, the 23rd homicide was reported on December 31st.
