On February 22, 2016 at approximately 10: 40 am, Emergency Services personnel responded to a residence in the 200 block of Pritchard Avenue regarding a check the well-being call.
Initial reports suggested a person at the location may have been injured and was in need to medical assistance.
On arrival, officers located a deceased woman who has since been identified as Marilyn Rose Munroe (41) of Winnipeg.
Police indicate the circumstances surrounding Munroe’s death remain under investigation and have made no indications regarding potential suspects.
When asked if Munroe’s death was possibly linked to domestic violence Police Spokesperson Constable Jason Michalyshyn indicated;
“We have to allow our investigation to take its course and we’re not closing any doors. We’re certainly not identifying any specific circumstance at this point; we remain open-minded and we’re going to conduct a thorough investigation.”
Michalyshyn also indicated results of Murnroe’s autopsy are pending.
Police are asking anyone who knew the victim to contact them to assist with the investigation.
Monroe is the 5th reported homicide victim in Winnipeg this year.
(All of the previously reported homicides have been solved.)
Women represent three (3) of the five (5) murder victims reported this year.
Last year only five (5) women were victims of homicide.
Early indications suggest 2016 will be a particularly bad year for violence against women in the City of Winnipeg.
In 2015, Winnipeg recorded the 5th murder on April 17.
