The Winnipeg Police Service Homicide Unit is working their 10th homicide case of the year.
On July 11, 2018 at approximately 1:40 a.m., EMS responded to the area of Flora Avenue and McKenzie Street regarding the report of a man being shot.
On arrival, officers located an injured man who was transported to hospital in critical condition.
The man was pronounced deceased a short time later.
The victim was identified as Kenneth Wood (35) of Winnipeg.
WPS Public Information Officer Constable Tammy Skrabek indicated the shooting occurred on the street.
Police did not provide information regarding a motive or whether the killing was gang or drug-related.
The WPS Homicide Unit is seeking assistance from anyone who had contact with the victim or can provide information regarding his whereabouts before his death.
Police are asking anyone with information that may assist investigators to call the Homicide Unit Sergeant at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
The man killed in this incident is the 10th reported homicide victim of the year.
All but one case this year has been solved – solvency rate = 90%.
In 2017, the 10th homicide of the year was recorded on May 23rd.
By July 11, 2017, the WPS Homicide Unit investigated a total of 13 homicide cases.
The year ended with a total of 23 homicide cases.
All but one case was solved – solvency rate = 95%.
