POLICE WORKING NORTH END MURDER – Arson related death or attempt to destroy evidence?

ArsonOn July 20, 2015 at approximately 7:30 am, emergency personnel responded to a residence located in the 600 block of Pritchard Ave regarding a fire.

Once the fire was extinguished, further examination revealed a deceased male within the residence.

The victim has been identified as Justin Harvey Chezick (42) of Winnipeg.

Police have not released a cause of death.

Members of the Homicide Unit continue to investigate.

Anyone with further information regarding the ongoing investigation is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

INSIDER COMMENTARY:

Chezick is the 15th reported homicide victim in Winnipeg this year.

All but three (3) cases (80%) have been solved.

Police indicate Chezick’s cause of death is pending autopsy.

The autopsy will also determine the manner of death.

Was Chezick killed as a result of someone committing the unlawful act of arson or was the arson used to conceal or destroy evidence of unlawful acts of violence like blunt force trauma or an edged weapon attack?

The manner of death will give Police a great deal of insight into the mind and sophistication of the killer.

  1. Lulonda Flett will be eligible for parole in 2018 after serving five whole years. I don’t know what else to say. Sigh.
