RCMP INVESTIGATE MURDER AT TATASWEYAK CREE NATION

On October 29, 2013 just after 12:30 am, Thompson RCMP were dispatched to a complaint of gunshots being fired.

Police subsequently attended the area and discovered a deceased female in a residence.

A twenty (20) year old male suspect was arrested at the scene and was detained in custody.  Police report the victim and suspect are known to each other but did not indicate if they were involved in a relationship of any kind.

Charges have not been laid at this point in the investigation and updates on the case are expected later today.  The names of the suspect and victim were not released.

An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted in Winnipeg today.

Thompson RCMP continue to investigate with the assistance of RCMP Major Crimes and the RCMP Forensic Identification Section.

Tatasweyak Cree Nation (Split Lake) is located approximately 120 kilometres northeast of Thompson, Manitoba.

This is the seventeenth (17) Homicide investigated by RCMP this year.

In 2012, the RCMP investigated a total of nineteen (19) killings.
