RCMP LAY CHARGE IN PAUINGASSI KILLING

On May 24, 2013, the RCMP provided an update on the Pauingassi murder reported on May 21, 2013.

RCMP report they have charged a fifteen (15) year old female from Pauingassi with Second Degree Murder regarding this incident.  The Young Offender has been remanded in custody and will appear in Youth Court in Winnipeg.

The other youth arrested at the time of the investigation has been released without charges.

The deceased has been identified as a nineteen (19) year old Pauingassi man who will not be identified due to a family relationship that could potentially identify the young person charged in the incident.

A post-mortem has taken place in Winnipeg and the cause of death has been attributed to a stab wound.

As previously reported in The Police Insider, this recent killing is the thirteenth (13) Homicide the RCMP have investigated in 2013.

THE YOUTH CRIMINAL JUSTICE ACT (YCJA):

If convicted of Second Degree Murder the Young Offender in this case would be subjected to the following sentence:

(ii) in the case of second degree murder, seven years comprised of

  • (A) a committal to custody, to be served continuously, for a period that must not, subject to subsection 104(1) (continuation of custody), exceed four years from the date of committal, and
  • (B) a placement under conditional supervision to be served in the community in accordance with section 105;
