On March 12, 2017 at approximately 10:10 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of a gunshot heard in the 200 block of Spence Street.
Upon arrival, police located an adult female victim outside of a residence suffering from life threatening injuries.
The woman was rushed to hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
Police have not identified the victim but indicate she was twenty-one (21) years of age.
The cause of death was not disclosed.
The investigation is continuing by members of the WPS Homicide Unit.

Update: April 12, 2017
On April 12, 2017, police issued a press release indicating additional arrests have been made in this case.
The press release indicates that on April 11, 2017, police attended a residence located in the 200 block of Atlantic Avenue regarding a robbery investigation.
As a result of the investigation, two men and a woman were arrested and taken into custody. All three individuals were charged with robbery in connection with the investigation.
The two men were also charged in connection with a commercial robbery that occurred at a video store located in the 1300 block of Main Street.
Police indicate two of the three suspects have also been charged in connection with Chartrand’s homicide.
These suspects have been identified as;
- Tyrone Anthony Chippeway (22) of Winnipeg
- Ashley Marie Bezecki (27) of Winnipeg
Both alleged offenders have been remanded into custody.
The woman killed in this incident represents the 6th reported homicide victim of 2017.
She is the 1st female victim of homicide to be killed this year.
Police have solved all but two killings – solvency rate = 71%.
The woman killed in this incident is the 3rd victim of the year to die as a result of gunfire.
On January 4, 2017, Tyler Kirton (25) was shot and killed by a 16-year-old young offender (male) who was charged with 1st degree murder in connection with the killing.
The killing occurred in the area of Thames Avenue and Watt Street.
On February 8, 2017, Bryer Prysiaznuik-Sette (24) was shot and killed in the area of Powers Street and Aberdeen Ave.
The killing remains unsolved.
In 2016, the 6th homicide of the year was reported on February 27.
Police investigated a total of 25 homicides in 2016 – three of those cases remain unsolved.

Police have identified the victim as Shania Chanel Chartrand (21) of Winnipeg.
The investigation is continuing.
