Members of the Winnipeg Police Service Homicide Unit are investigating after the body of a man was found in a north end residence.
On September 22, 2018, at 1:30 p.m., police were dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of Pritchard Ave regarding a “check the well-being call.”
Upon arrival, officers located the body of a man who had been violently assaulted.
Police identified the deceased man as Jason Peter John James (40) of Winnipeg.
WPS Public Information Officer Constable Rob Carver indicated police were working to identify suspects and no arrests had been made.
Carver indicated the investigation was continuing by members of the Homicide Unit and asked anyone with information that may assist investigators to call 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
A total of forty-six (46) days have elapsed since the last homicide in Winnipeg was recorded.
The victim, in this case, is the thirteenth (13th) reported homicide victim of the year.
All but two (2) of the thirteen (13) cases have been solved.
Solvency rate = 85%.
In 2017, the thirteenth (13th) homicide was recorded on June 21st.
As of September 22, 2017, the City of Winnipeg recorded a total of twenty (20) homicide cases.
The year ended with a total of 23 homicides.
The decline in homicides, year to date, represents a year over year decrease of thirty-five (-35%) percent.
