WINNIPEG POLICE SERVICE 9TH ANNUAL HALF MARATHON
AND TWO-PERSON RELAY
IN SUPPORT OF COPS FOR CANCER

On May 5th the Winnipeg Police Service will proudly host its ninth annual half marathon in support of the Cops for Cancer (Winnipeg Iron Cops) Program.  This event is hosted in cooperation with the Winnipeg Police Service where approximately 2700 runners will be racing in this event.

Cancer has affected so many people today; has touched each and every one of us in many different ways.  Each member of the race committee has been affected by way of a family member diagnosed with cancer, a friend, a co-worker or themselves.  Iron Cops is part of the Cops for Cancer program that has fundraised for the Canadian Cancer Society and raised millions nationally since its inception in 1994.  Since 2000, the Winnipeg Iron Cops chapter alone has raised approximately $860,000.00 and of that amount approximately $690,000.00 since the inception of the WPS Half Marathon!

The event is scheduled to start at 8:00 am just east of the Assiniboine Park footbridge with a moment of silence to remember the tragic events in Boston.  For the first time, there will be two starting waves, the second wave starting at 8:30 am.

The Winnipeg Police Service’s helicopter, AIR1 will be on site at the Assiniboine Park for public viewing – weather permitting.

Members of the public are invited to cheer runners on along the route or at the finish line!  The public is also invited to enjoy a pancake breakfast at the race site by donating to the Canadian Cancer Society.
