Winnipeg Police Homicide Detectives are busy working the first homicide case of 2015.
On January 23, 2015, at approximately 11:20 p.m., Police responded to the area of Isabel Street and Pacific Ave regarding an injured male.
Police indicate a twenty-two (22) year old male was transported to hospital in critical condition and has since been pronounced deceased.
Media reports identify the victim as Dustin Mckay (22) of Winnipeg.
Police indicate the cause of death will be determined pending the results of an autopsy.
Media reports also suggest Mckay may have been beaten and placed into a roadway where he may have been struck by a passing vehicle.
Police confirmed the homicide involved a motor vehicle but declined to disclose further information.
The investigation is ongoing.
The last reported homicide in Winnipeg occurred forty-two (42) days ago on December 15, 2015.
A total of three (3) homicides from 2014 remain unsolved.
The killing of Dustin Mckay appears to have some eerie similarities to the tragic 2005 death of Adam Lecours (34) who was run over by a motor vehicle after he was beaten and left unconscious in the roadway.
Two adult offenders and a fifteen (15) year old young offender were charged with manslaughter in the case.
Winnipeg recorded a total of twenty-five (25) homicides in 2014.
