WPS Investigating Pair of Valentine’s Day Killings

On February 15, 2018, the Winnipeg Police Service issued a press release announcing they are currently investigating a pair of Valentine’s Day killings.

On February 14, 2018 at approximately 2:30 a.m., emergency services personnel responded to a call for service in the 500 block of Furby Street. Upon arrival, the body of a deceased adult male was located.

Police identified the victim as Joseph Francois (45) of Winnipeg.

Police indicate Francois had been stabbed.

He is the 3rd reported victim of homicide in the City of Winnipeg this year.

No suspects have been arrested.

On February 14, 2018 at approximately 8:50 a.m., emergency services personnel responded to a stabbing in the 100 block of Charles Walk.

Upon arrival, the victim was located and transported to hospital in critical condition.

He was pronounced deceased a short time later.

The victim was identified as Conrad Flett (27) of St. Theresa Point.

Flett is the 4th reported victim of homicide in the City of Winnipeg this year.

No suspects have been arrested.

Back to Back Valentine’s Day Homicides

This is the second consecutive year the WPS Homicide Unit has investigated a Valentine’s Day killing.

On February 14, 2017, Winnipeg Transit driver Irvine Jubal Fraser (58) was stabbed to death after attempting to remove a “sleeper” off his bus.

Police charged Brian Kyle Thomas (22) with 2nd degree murder in connection with the killing.

In 2018, the WPS Homicide Unit has investigated a total of four (4) homicides.

Police have only solved one of the four killings thus far.

The cause of death in three of the homicides was attributed to stabbings.

The cause of death was not disclosed in the first homicide of the year.
