The Winnipeg Police Service is working the second homicide case of 2019.
On January 9, 2019, at approximately 2:25 a.m., WPS Patrol Officers responded to the report of a domestic incident in progress at a residence in the 500 block of Daer Boulevard.
Upon arrival, officers located a 41-year-old unconscious woman.
The woman was rushed to hospital but was subsequently pronounced deceased.
The victim has been identified as Eunjee Kim (41) of Winnipeg.
A man from the residence was arrested at the scene.
He was identified as Juhyun Park (44) of Winnipeg.
Police Public Information Officer Constable Rob Carver indicated Park was taken to hospital for treatment for an unspecified injury where he was treated and released.
Park was charged with manslaughter and has been detained in custody.
The cause of death not released pending autopsy.
Kim is the 2nd homicide victim of the year.
Both cases have been solved – solvency rate = 100%.
In 2018, the second homicide of the year was recorded on January 18.
The year ended with a total of 22 killings.
Man Clinging to Life may be 3rd Homicide Victim of Year
A man clinging to life may be the 3rd homicide of the year.
On January 7, 2019, at approximately 10:30 a.m., EMS personnel responded to a residence located in the 500 block of Burrows Ave regarding a report of a man who had been shot.
Upon arrival, First Responders located a man in his 30’s who had sustained a serious gunshot wound to the upper body. The man was rushed to hospital in critical condition where he remains in critical life-threatening condition.
Police officers detained a suspect at the scene.
The suspect was identified as Benny Lance Hansen (34) of Winnipeg who has been charged with;
- Aggravated Assault
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon
- Unauthorized Possess of a Firearm
- Careless Use of a Firearm
- Discharge Firearm
- Fail to Comply with Recognizance x 2
- Possession of a Firearm
Hasen was detained in custody.
The investigation is continuing by members of the WPS Homicide Unit.
(Should the victim succumb to his injuries, charges will be upgraded to murder or manslaughter.)

In 2018, police solved a total of 20 of the 22 reported homicide cases.
The solvency rate for 2018 stands at 91%.
