It appears the Winnipeg Police Service is starting preparations to enter into the world of social media.
Police in Murder City have bucked national trends and have maintained an extremely low profile in the social networking world.
On Friday, world wide police forces were using social media to engage the public by sharing information related to the nature of calls and call volume. It was part of the first ever police tweet-a-thon day.
RCMP have also bucked the trend but are apparently giving the issue serious consideration.
On March 17, 2013 I followed a twitter feed conversation between a Saskatoon DJ who was tweeting his concerns regarding his observations of an on duty Saskatoon Police Officer who was using his cell phone while driving a police cruiser car. It appeared the DJ was trying to entice the Saskatoon Police social media officer into a contentious debate.
In an impressive display of social media savvy, the Saskatoon Police officer didn’t take the bait and remained professional and non-confrontational.
Saskatoon Police Service currently has 9,247 followers on Twitter.
They also have a Facebook Page that you can find !
I hope the WPS Executive is paying attention.
