The sixteen (16) members of the WPS “Cops for Kids” Bicycle Relay Team are getting ready to hit the road in support of the Children’s Wish Foundation. Team members include officers from a variety of assignments in the Police Service and include long time team member Police Chief Devon Clunis.
The “West for Wishes” ride will see the team members cycling non-stop from Winnipeg to Tofino, BC, departing September 9, 2013. The riders will traverse a total of four (4) Provinces and will cover a distance of approximately 2,579 kilometres over the course of four (4) days.
The “West for Wishes” ride is the tenth (10th) tour that has been coordinated by the WPS Officers. (Tours are completed every two (2) years.) Funds raised during the tours are used to grant the most heartfelt wishes of children suffering from life threatening illnesses.
All monies raised from the tours go directly to granting wishes. Wish children, some with Cancer, Congenital Heart defects, Cystic Fibrosis, Organ Failure and Duchene’s Muscular Dystrophy are dreaming of a cherished wish. These courageous children often face life time treatments or the reality that their life may be cut short.
With critical support from partners and sponsors Wal-Mart & Coca Cola, the Cops for Kids Bicycle Team is humbled by the fact this initiative has translated to the donation of more than $1,000,000 to the Children’s Wish Foundation. A truly remarkable accomplishment.
