Homicide Record Grows – Police Investigating North End Murder

The record breaking homicide count in River City continues to grow.

On December 25, 2019 at 10:20 a.m., Winnipeg Police General Patrol officers came upon a male down on a sidewalk at the intersection of Salter Street and Redwood Avenue.

Officers determined the man had been assaulted.

The victim was rushed to hospital but was subsequently pronounced deceased.

Police have identified the victim as Gordon Edward Pashe (37).

Police have not released information regarding cause of death or a possible motive for the killing.

No arrests have been made.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit.

Pashe is the 43rd reported victim of homicide in the City of Winnipeg this year.

In 2018, the WPS investigated a total of 22 homicide cases.

In 2011, the WPS investigated a record 41 homicide cases.

On November 13, 2019, the WPS investigated the record tying 41st reported homicide case of the year.

On December 17, 2019, police reported the record breaking 42nd homicide case of the year.

In that case, the victim, Douglas Wood (41) was killed in an arson related case in the 500 block of Pritchard Avenue that occurred on October 31st, 2019.

Police DID NOT DISCLOSE the killing was a homicide until the arrest was made on December 17, 2019.

With the addition of the Wood killing, the WPS investigated an unprecedented nine (9) homicide cases in the month of October.

Police have solved all but eight (8) reported homicide cases this year – solvency rate stands at 81%.
