The City of Winnipeg continues down a path of death and destruction that may yet rival our deadliest year on record.
On May 21, 2019, at approximately 9:50 a.m., EMS responders attended a residence in the 500 block of Flora Avenue regarding an injured man.
Upon arrival, an adult male was located suffering from an apparent stab wound.
The man was rushed to hospital where he was subsequently pronounced deceased.
The victim was identified as Jessie Robert David Catterson (36) of Winnipeg.
Police have not released information regarding the motive for the attack or if they have any suspect (s) in custody.
The investigation is continuing by members of the WPS Homicide Unit – anyone with information that might assist the investigation is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
Catterson is the 16th reported homicide victim of the year.
Police have solved 13 of the 16 reported cases this year – solvency rate = 81.25%.
In 2018, the 16th homicide of the year was recorded on August 30th.
In 2011, the City of Winnipeg recorded a record 41 homicides.

Victim Known to Police
It seems the victim, in this case, is “known” to police.
In July of 2017, the WPS arrested Catterson and charged him with four (4) criminal offences that included two counts of possession of a weapon after he was alleged to be in possession of a sawed-off pump-action shotgun and a knife.
Catterson was detained in custody on the charges.
Inquiries regarding the disposition of these charges are pending.
