North End Murder Breaks August Respite

After a brief twenty-one day murder respite, Winnipeg Police Homicide Detectives were back on the job working their first “hot case” in the month of August.

On August 16, 2016 at approximately 9:55 am, members of the WPS responded to a residence located in the 300 block of Bannerman Ave regarding the discovery of a deceased man.

The victim was identified as Eugene Allan Harris (62) of Winnipeg.

Autopsy revealed Harris died of injuries suffered during an assault.

The Homicide Unit continued the investigation which resulted in Manslaughter charges being laid against a suspect identified as Vincent Morin (31) of Winnipeg.

Morin was detained in custody.

Harris is the 18th reported homicide victim in Winnipeg this year.

All but 3 homicides have been solved – solvency rate 83%.

In 2015, the 18th homicide was recorded on October 8th.

Police investigated a total of 23 killings last year.
