The Winnipeg Police Service Homicide Unit has laid charges in Winnipeg’s 14th homicide of the year.
On May 5, 2019, at approximately 3:40 a.m., West District Patrol Officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Taylor Avenue regarding the report of a disturbance.
On arrival, police located a suspect and injured man inside a suite.
Police immediately arrested the suspect and took him into custody while EMS rushed the victim to hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, the victim died as a result of his injuries.
The deceased man has been identified as Dylan Brian Hanchar (24) of Winnipeg.
As a result of the investigation, police believe the victim and accused were alone in the apartment when they became involved in an argument that escalated to the point the victim was stabbed.
Police have charged Dustin Avrom Glow (24) with manslaughter as a result of his alleged involvement in the killing.
Police confirmed the stabbing occurred in Glow’s apartment.
Glow was detained in custody.
Hanchar is the 14th reported homicide victim of the year in Winnipeg.
Police have solved 12 of the 14 reported homicide cases this year – solvency rate 85.71%.
In 2018, the 14th homicide of the year was recorded on September 24.
In 2017, the 14th homicide of the year was recorded on July 16.
In 2011, the City of Winnipeg recorded a record 41 homicide cases.
That year, the 14th homicide of the year was recorded on May 16th.
