Police Charge Suspect in North K Stabbing

Police have laid charges in the latest Winnipeg homicide.

On October 6, 2016 at approximately 3:10 am, members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 300 block of Springfield Road regarding a serious assault.

On arrival, police located a twenty-three (23) year old male victim suffering from critical injuries consistent with being stabbed.

Members of the WFPS transported the victim to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police have identified the victim as Scott Tates (23) of Winnipeg.

Police indicate the investigation revealed the victim and a man known to him, became involved in a dispute when a physical confrontation occurred.  The suspect left the area and returned a short time later, armed with a weapon, which he used to attack the victim.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and has been identified as Christopher Blair McDougall (28) of Winnipeg.

McDougall has been charged with 2nd degree murder and assault cause bodily harm.

He was remanded into custody.

The victim killed in this incident is the 20th reported homicide in the City of Winnipeg this year.

Last year, the 20th homicide was recorded on October 30th.

Police have solved all but three homicides in Winnipeg this year.

Solvency rate = 85%

The most recent killing in Winnipeg was reported on August 16, 2016, some 51 days ago.

Fifty-one day respites are rare but extremely beneficial to Homicide Unit Investigators who busy themselves by working unsolved cases and tying up loose ends.
