Police ID Victim in Latest Killing

On Tuesday, August 27, 2019, the Winnipeg Police Service issued a press release providing information regarding the latest city homicide.

On Saturday, August 24, 2019, at approximately 1:40 a.m., EMS personnel responded to an apartment building in the 400 block of Elgin Avenue regarding the report of an unresponsive man in a suite.

On arrival, the injured man was located and found to be deceased.

The victim has been identified as John Graham Buesnel (64) of Winnipeg.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit who are asking anyone with information to contact investigators at ph: 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.

Police issue a media release indicating they’ve made an arrest in this case.

On August, 29, 2019, Detectives arrested a woman identified as Taylor Lapierre (24) who was subsequently charged with manslaughter.

Lapierre was detained in custody.

Police have also secured an arrest warrant for 2nd degree murder for a additional suspect who was identified as Shyla Lee Walker (31).

Walker is described as being 5’3″ tall and weighs approximately 110 pounds.

Monday, September 2, 2019

Police issue a press release indicating Walker has been arrested in connection with this case.

On August 31, 2019, at 6:15 a.m., Walker turned herself in at WPS Headquarters at which time she was taken into custody.

Police indicate Walker & Lapierre are sisters and knew the victim as an acquaintance. Police believe the sisters were socializing with him before the homicide.

Police did not release information regarding Buesnel’s cause of death or the motive for the killing.

Buesnel is the 28th reported homicide victim of the year in Winnipeg.

Police have solved all but 4 of the 28 cases – solvency rate = 85%.

In 2018, the City of Winnipeg recorded a total of twenty-two (22) homicide cases.

In 2011, the City of Winnipeg recorded a record 41 homicide cases.

In 2011, the 28th homicide of the year was recorded on the 27th day of August.
