The Winnipeg Police Service Homicide Unit is working hard to put the pieces of a puzzle together to shed light on the deaths of two men who were shot to death at a popular downtown restaurant and bar.

On February 6, 2019, at approximately 1:30 a.m., police responded to a report of a shooting at Johnny G’s Restaurant at 172 Main Street.

Upon arrival, police located two men who were suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

The men were rushed to a hospital and both subsequently died from their injuries.

The WPS Public Information Unit issued a press release indicating, “There is no additional threat to the public as a result of this incident.”

The names of the deceased men were not released.

Police indicate no further information is available at this time.

Information suggests the killing may have been gang-related.

Insider Commentary;

The deceased men in this incident represent the 4th and 5th homicide victims of the year.

In 2018, the 4th homicide of the year was recorded on February 14th, while the 5th homicide of the year wasn’t recorded until April 4th.

Suffice it to say, we’re off to an unenviable start to the year.

In 2018, the City of Winnipeg recorded only three (3) firearm-related homicide cases.

As of today, the WPS has already investigated a total of four (4) firearm-related homicides.

You can expect that number to rise.

No Threat to the Public

Words matter.

When police suggest there is “no threat to the public as a result of this incident” that generally means the suspect or suspects have been neutralized somehow.

Strange considering information regarding arrests has not been released.

If our information is correct, you can expect to hear a bizarre twist to this story.

Lightning Strikes Twice

William Edward Moar (Twitter)

This is not the first time shots have rung out at this Johnny G’s Restaurant location.

On February 15, 2013, B-Side Gangster William “G-Money” Moar (24) was gunned down just before 2 a.m. in the popular drinking spot.

The shooting was captured on videotape.

The shooter was associated with the Mad Cowz street gang.

It wasn’t the start and it wouldn’t be the end of the killing.

It’s unclear if the latest killings have any connection with the long history of precipitous gang violence.
