Police Looking for Suspects in Homicide Case

Members of the Winnipeg Police Service Homicide Unit are working on their third murder case in less than a week.

On April 27, 2016, at approximately 2:20 p.m., EMS personnel responded to the area of Alexander Ave and Dee Street regarding the report of an injured man.

Information received indicated the man was suffering from stab wounds and required immediate medical attention.

Upon arrival, the man was located and rushed to hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced deceased.

The victim has been identified as Gheorghe Uta (52) of Winnipeg.

Members of the Homicide Unit are continuing the investigation and indicate two “persons of interest” have been described as:

#1) Male, Aboriginal in appearance, 20’s, 5’9” – 6’0” in height, thin build, wearing a dark hoody with hood up, baseball cap worn underneath. He was riding a blue mountain bike.

#2) Female – Aboriginal in appearance, 20’s, 5’4”- 5’5” in height, medium build, long dark hair, wearing a light coloured zip up hoody and black pants. She was riding a white mountain bike.

Uta is the 10th reported homicide victim in Winnipeg this year.

Last year, the 10th homicide was reported on May 16.

Media reports indicate Uta may have been stabbed at the same location on March 31st this year.  Reports indicate a man was taken to hospital, treated and later released.


The WPS Homicide Unit has solved 8 out of the 10 cases investigated this year.
