On October 22, 2013, shortly before midnight, an RCMP Detachment in the East District was contacted by the spouse of a WPS Officer regarding a report of a domestic disturbance at their residence.
The RCMP attended the residence and subsequently arrested and charged a thirty-seven (37) year old WPS Officer with one (1) count of assault and two (2) counts of uttering threats. The victim did not require medical treatment.
The officer was off duty at the time of the incident.
The name of the charged Officer and where the alleged incident occurred will not be released to protect the identity of the victim.
The RCMP media release did not include information related to the accused officers years of service or his status with the WPS.
Winnipeg Police Spokesman Constable Eric Hofley declined to provide any further information indicating, “As this is an RCMP investigation no further information other than what was in their release will be provided.”
As in the past, it is expected the accused Officer will be the subject of a suspension hearing in the near future.
