Knife / 31

On February 8, 2014, shortly before midnight, emergency personnel were dispatched to a report of a male stabbed in the 100 block of Noble Avenue.

On arrival, a 19-year-old male was found to be suffering several stab wounds to the upper body.  He was transported to hospital in critical condition.

Jordan Thomas Munroe (19) of Winnipeg was arrested at the scene.

Members of the Major Crime Unit continued the investigation which revealed Munroe, along with the victim and another person, had been socializing when a verbal argument occurred.  The argument resulted in Munroe being evicted from the residence.  Minutes later Munroe returned to get his coat and when allowed entry the argument resumed.  Police report the argument escalated to the point where Munroe armed himself with a knife and stabbed the victim several times in the upper body.

Munroe was charged with Attempt Murder and Aggravated Assault and was detained at the Provincial Remand Center.

On February 11, 2014 the victim succumbed to his injuries.  He has been identified as Marcus Neil Blacksmith (19) of Winnipeg.

Police indicate the charges against Munroe have now been upgraded to 2nd Degree Murder.

Munroe was processed regarding the new charges and detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.

Blacksmith is the third (3rd) person murdered in Winnipeg in 2014.
