On Tuesday, April 16, 2019, the Winnipeg Police Service issued a news release indicating they were investigating the first homicide case recorded in April this year.
On April 15, 2019 at 11:10 p.m., emergency personnel responded to a lounge in the 300 block of Pembina Highway regarding the report of a stabbing.
Upon arrival, police located two (2) men suffering from serious stab wounds.
One of the men was rushed to hospital in critical condition and subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
The second man was rushed to hospital in critical unstable condition where he remains.
Police have not released information regarding the motive in the killing or confirmed the identity of the deceased man.
No arrests or suspects have been reported.
The investigation is continuing by members of the WPS Homicide Unit.

The man killed in this attack is the twelfth (12th) reported homicide victim of the year.
Police have solved 8 of the 12 reported homicide cases this year – solvency rate 66.66%.
In 2018, the 12th homicide of the year was recorded on August 7th.
In 2017, the 12th homicide of the year was recorded on June 18th.
In 2011, the City of Winnipeg recorded a record 41 homicide cases.
That year, the 12th homicide of the year was recorded on May 10th.
