Winnipeg Woman Killed in North End Assault

Butterfly On FireOn February 6, 2016 at approximately 5:00 am, emergency services personnel were dispatched to an assault in progress at a residence located in the 500 block of Stella Ave.

Upon arrival, a woman was located nearby suffering from serious injuries suffered in a deadly assault.  The woman was transported to hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced deceased.

Police identified the victim as Mavis Ducharme (39) of Winnipeg.

Members of the Homicide Unit were called out and are continuing the investigation.

Police report the results of an autopsy are pending and interviews are ongoing.

Ducharme is the third reported homicide victim in Winnipeg this year.


The WPS investigated two (2) homicide cases in January this year.

On January 12, 2016, Cynthia Marie French (35) was stabbed to death in a violent attacked launched by sisters Candice Nepinak (31) and Vanessa Nepinak (35).  Police charged the alleged killers with 2nd degree murder in connection with the homicide.

On January 5, 2016, George Flett (57) died in a violent blunt force assault.  Police charged Darcy Beardy (29) with 2nd degree murder in connection with Flett’s death.

Last year, the third (3rd) murder of the year occurred on February 15, 2015.

Police investigated a total of twenty-three (23) homicides in 2015 and solved all but two cases securing a solvency rate of approximately 91%.
